This tape does not let water penetrate but it is "napped" and the fuzzy nap will hold water - so it may not be suitable for use in places where it might actually get wet or muddy. It may be useful for reducing noise from trim panels that snap into place, however, you may need to use several layers in some cases because it is not very thick. I think it will be good, however, for wrapping tool handles (hammers, shovels) temporarily, as it should be very comfortable to hold and should help you firmly grip the tools.
